We heard about these fantastic outdoor libraries from a friend of The Footpath Library. We’re officially in love and hope this US-based invention makes its way down under. The premise is that the birdhouse-like structures hold up to about 20 books, and people can borrow and return them at their leisure.
Kind of The Footpath Library meets Bookcrossing, it overcomes that pesky issue of wishing you had a good book to read but rueing the fact that it’s outside your local library’s trading hours. The enclosed structures mean that the books are protected from the elements and the cute structures are too cute and too cool to walk past without warranting closer inspection.
We also think it’s a great way for our clients to access books if they don’t happen to be near one of The Footpath Library’s bookcases…
