WHAT WE DO
The Footpath Library distributes new and excellent quality secondhand books to people experiencing homelessness via mobile services in New South Wales, Victoria and Western Australia.
We collaborate with other providers in the homelessness sector to provide a truly unique service. We are a registered charity, and maintain a high standard of physical and content quality – only giving books to our clients that we would be happy to give to a friend or relative.
The Footpath Library does not receive government funding.
We’re Australia’s only free-giving mobile library for people experiencing homelessness.
CHILDREN’S LITERACY KITS
Amidst the upheaval of homelessness, a book can offer a sense of comfort, normalcy and escape for a child.
The Footpath Library distributes literacy kits to children living temporarily in crisis accommodation across Sydney, Melbourne and Perth.
Each child receives their own kit including a calico bag, two age-appropriate books, a colouring book and pencils, a numeracy card game, a reading teddy, plus a handwritten postcard with a message of positivityand kindness.
Every kit that we distribute goes to a child in need and every kit sends a message that they matter.
“I really believe that reading is freedom. Books help keep people healthy and happy and truly are food for the mind and soul.”
